பாரதிய ஜனதா கட்சி

India's ruling national party, which has been working to expand its presence and vote share in Tamil Nadu.

About

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was formed on 6 April 1980, succeeding the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. It has led the Union Government since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In Tamil Nadu, the BJP has historically been a smaller player, contesting mostly in alliance with one of the Dravidian parties. It won four Assembly seats in 2021 in alliance with the AIADMK.

Under state presidents L. Murugan, K. Annamalai and Nainar Nagendran, the party has focused on organisation-building at the booth level and on increasing its vote share across the state.
